Meet Joan and Peter
Camilo is a premier producer of Australian extra virgin olive oil and artisan food products.
The Camilo Olive farm is located in the rolling hills of south-west Victoria. After an extensive search by founders Joan and Peter McGovern, the couple found a site between the grassy woodland of the Inverleigh Flora and Fauna Reserve and the Leigh River.
In 2002, Joan and Peter planted their first olive trees on the flat plains between the reserve and the river valley. The location provides a great climate, position and soil for growing premium quality olives. At the same time, extensive wildlife corridors were planted on the estate to provide shelter from westerly winds and a home to local native animals. The Leigh River winds its way through a valley at the western edge of the property, providing a home to beautiful and very old river gums and blackwood trees as well as an abundance of Australian wildlife including kangaroos, koalas, platypus, wedge-tailed eagles, parrots and possums.
Camilo’s olive groves have grown to 12 hectares of Taggiasca, Koroneiki, Pendolino, Kalamata and Corregiola trees. The cool climate environment of the region means Camilo olives enjoy maximum sunshine and a prolonged ripening period, producing the highest quality extra virgin olive oils.
The olives are processed on-site, strictly following the standards for ultra premium extra virgin olive oil. In addition, Camilo serves other small growers in the area by offering custom milling services.
Since its first planting of olives, Camilo’s product line has expanded beyond extra virgin olive oil to include award-winning infused oils, table olives, olive preserves and olive seasoning salts.
Year after year, Camilo’s olive oils and artisan products consistently win awards in national and international competitions. Camilo’s products can be found in specialty retail stores and fine restaurants in Victoria, Japan, Taiwan and China and Canada.
